This traffic management course equips participants with theory and practical skills. You need these skills to implement Basic Worksite Traffic Management and Traffic Control within Western Australia in accordance with:

Who Should Attend
This training is designed for anyone who needs to update or refresh their traffic management skills, including workers responsible for operating, installing, and maintaining Portable Traffic Control Devices (PTCDs).
Accreditation & Certification
Course Content
In this course, participants will learn how to set up and implement Traffic Guidance Schemes in accordance with the Traffic Management Plan. Position, setup and operate portable traffic control devices entailing a portable traffic control signal system (PTSS) and how to safely use a stop-slow bat to safely control traffic.
The training covers risk assessment, correct use of signs and devices, and compliance with MRWA Traffic Management for Works on Roads CODE OF PRACTICE and Western Australia road management legislation. Additionally, learners will learn communication skills including the use of two-way radios and develop practical skills for basic worksite traffic management, including management and traffic control techniques.
The new PTCD requirements you will learn:
- Main Roads WA and AGTTM PTCD requirements
- Plan and prepare for works
- Pair and Sync devices
- Emergency procedures
- Operate the devices to control traffic
- Packing up procedures
PTCD’s are now mandatory on roads controlled by Main Roads WA as required under the MRWA Traffic Management for Works on Roads Code of Practice.
This course is delivered face to face at our Welshpool Training Venue and includes practical training and assessment also available on site by request.
Pre-Course Requirements
Participants must have and bring:
- White Card (or valid Blue Card)
- Photo ID (e.g., passport, driver’s licence)
- USI (Unique Student Identifier) – Apply at www.usi.gov.au
- Valid driver’s licence. (A current or previous valid licence for Traffic Controller accreditation, is a licence which allows you to drive a motor vehicle on WA roads.)
Physical Fitness
Participants must have a level of fitness that allows them to:
- Stand for extended periods while holding a stop-slow bat
- Lift and handle signs and devices (5-10 kg each)
- Lifting PTSS lanterns with a two-handed lift with components weighing around 10 kgs each
- Set up and pack down a worksite
- Move quickly in response to approaching vehicles

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills (LLND)
Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Requirements (LLND)
Participants must demonstrate the ability to read and write in English and possess basic numeracy skills.
For example: undertake simple calculations, read and interpret information from documents including work procedures and legislation. Ability to listen to instructions, ask questions and operate equipment including two-way radios. Written communications to interpret and report vehicles, complete daily diaries, risk assessments and incident reports. Digital skills to be able to program a portable electronic device (PTCD).
Learning Tools & Equipment
PPE participants must wear:
- Safety footwear
- Long-sleeved shirt (high-visibility vest can be provided)
- Long pants
- Safety gloves (suitable for manual handling)
- Sun protection, hat, and wet weather gear (if required)
Catering
Days 1 – 3: Tea, coffee, biscuits, Cup of Soup, and morning tea.
Day 4: Tea, coffee, biscuits, Cup of Soup.
We recommend you bring your own lunch. A cafe is also located at the Welshpool site.

How long is my MRWA Traffic Management Accreditation valid for?
Your MRWA Traffic Management Accreditation is valid for three (3) years from the date of issue.
After the 3-year period you must complete a re-accreditation/renewal course. Should your card have expired over 3 months ago you will need to undertake the full course.
I have lost my White Card how can I have it replaced?
If you have lost your White Card and completed your training with Kelyn Training Services, please contact us. We can issue a replacement White Card, provided your original card is still valid. A replacement fee of $50.00 applies and must be paid at the time of application.
I have Traffic Management Accreditation from another State. Can I have it recognised in Western Australia?
If you hold Temporary Traffic Management Accreditation from another state, please contact us and provide evidence of your accreditation, along with the Statement of Attainment issued by the relevant Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or Authorised Body. Once received, we will review your documentation and advise you on the most appropriate next steps.
I hold Traffic Management Implementer (TMI) obtained from another State. What is the equivalent accreditation in Western Australia?
If you hold Traffic Management Implementer accreditation from another state, the closest Western Australian equivalent is generally:

What are the Office Hours?
The Office is open Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Training hours with the exception of the Whitecard and drug testing are from 7:30 am onwards. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to class commencement time.
What drivers licence do I need to hold or have held to undertake Traffic Controller Accreditation
A valid driver’s licence for Traffic Controller accreditation, can be
defined as a driver’s licence that allows you to drive a motor vehicle on WA roads.
This does not include L Plates.
